Workshop on Irish-medium education at third-level

June 7th
University of Galway

The aim of this workshop is to bring together lecturers etc. who are interested in Irish-medium education for subjects not traditionally taught through Irish at third-level, to learn from our collective experiences and collaborate on some common goals.

A report based on the workshop is available for download here:

Keynote speakers from the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, University of Aberystwyth, and Swansea University will describe the history and work of the Coleg, which creates training and study opportunities through the medium of Welsh, and maintains a country-wide infrastructure for third-level teaching through a minority language to which we might all aspire.

Participants will have an opportunity to provide some insight into the experiences of teaching through Irish at their institution, and an overview of their Irish-medium offerings.

In the afternoon, we will hear from a number of other groups involved in education provision through Irish, and will hold some round-table discussions on topics such as development of a teaching resource database, shared modules, collaboration with employers, etc.

Language:

The language of the workshop will be English, but reports etc. after the event will be provided in both Irish and English.
